An ex-DeKalb County daycare provider is headed to prison after a 15-month-old boy in her care suffered grave injuries, authorities announced Friday.

Evelyn Bruce-Mighty, 59, owner of Angela's Little Daycare in Lithonia, was convicted of aggravated battery and child cruelty. The toddler underwent brain surgery and was in a coma for more than a month after being rushed to the hospital on May 16, 2014, the District Attorney’s Office said.

On Tuesday, Superior Court Judge Asha Jackson sentenced Bruce-Mighty to 30 years, with the first 15 in prison.

“Though the exact cause of the child’s injuries are still unknown, medical experts testified they were consistent with abusive head trauma often associated with falls from great heights and shaken baby syndrome,” a statement from the DA’s office said. “The victim, now 4 years old, survived his injuries but still suffers from related medical issues.”
