With all the presents opened and Christmas officially in the rear view mirror, it’s time to figure out what to do with that tree. If you’re a DeKalb County resident, you’re in luck.

The county’s sanitation division is offering to pick up Christmas trees left on the curb for free, from now until Friday, Jan. 10. All of the trees will be recycled and turned into mulch.

They will be collected on residents’ regular trash and recycling pickup days.

It's important to note that trees left on the curb must be 7 feet or less, according to the county. If you can't trim it down to that length, you can take it to the county landfill on Seminole Road or have it collected by the "special collection unit," though extra fees may apply.

Also — and this should go without saying — make sure all decorations and ornaments are removed from the tree before it is turned into mulch.

For more information on Christmas tree collection, or to arrange a special collection for a large tree, contact the sanitation division at 404-294-2900 or sanitation@dekalbcountyga.gov.
