The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners approved an allocation of $30,736 from Commissioner Steve Bradshaw’s District 4 2019 midyear reserve funds to purchase traffic radar signs at its Dec. 10 meeting, according to a press release.

A radar speed sign is an interactive sign, generally constructed of a series of LEDs that displays vehicle speed as motorists’ approach.

“Law enforcement can never have enough support and resources in order to do their jobs to keep citizens safe,” Commissioner Bradshaw said. “I see the use of traffic radar signs as another tool to help our communities be safer. Radar speed signs are designed to encourage drivers to slow down and obey speed limits.”

The purpose of radar speed signs is to make drivers aware when they are driving at speeds above the posted limits. Speed signs have been proven to be effective, particularly with today’s highly visual, often distracted drivers.
