DeKalb County is seeking donations for school supplies from the community.
“It’s a time for all residents to support the education of our youth by donating school supplies,” DeKalb interim CEO Lee May said in a statement.
May plans to hand out 500 backpacks filled with school supplies at the seventh annual DeKalb Family Fun Day on Sunday, Aug. 14.
To accomplish this task, he's calling on residents of DeKalb to step forward and donate through this Friday. The county is accepting everything from pens and pencils to notebooks and binders.
Donations can be dropped off at several recreation centers and other facilities throughout the county, listed below. If you have questions about donations, you may contact Nichole Simms at 404-371-2552 or via email at jnsimms@dekalbcountyga.gov.
The DeKalb Family Fun Day will feature music by V-103, food trucks, the DeKalb's Mobile Farmer's Market, rock climbing, games and more family entertainment.
The event will last from 2 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14 and will be held at Bransby Outdoor YMCA at Rock Chapel (1185 Rock Chapel Road, Lithonia).
