Berkeley Lake officials have been reminding residents that, in addition to laws prevent the discharge of firearms within city and county limits, bow hunting is also strictly prohibited in the city. The reminder comes after several situations where homeowners have witnessed wounded deer struggling after being pierced by an arrow, as well as one homeowner finding an arrow protruding from their chimney.

Among other restrictions, Berkeley Lake’s city ordinance prohibits the “discharge of any gun, pistol, rifle, revolver, cannon, or firearm of any type or shoot a slingshot, bow and arrow, crossbow or blow gun within 300 yards of any street, alley, or building” unless lawfully defending themselves or their personal property.

Berkeley Lake will fine violators $1,000 in addition to any county and state charges. Residents witnessing anyone hunting within city limits are encouraged to call 911 immediately.
