Outgoing City Schools Decatur Superintendent Phyllis Edwards won’t comment on recent rumors that she’s been contacted by other systems. But during an interview with the AJC Edwards, 64, made it clear she’s not ready to call it quits.

“I don’t want to retire,” she said. “I’m exploring my options. If something comes along that fits, then I’ll definitely be interested.”

After announcing her resignation last March Edwards said she’d likely move back to Palm Coast, Florida — where she worked for 21 years. She also added, “I still have that fire.”

She has volunteered to remain with CSD through the end of December, though a search-firm consultant said last week he’d like to see a new superintendent hired by September.
