Despite over 100 fallen trees citywide due to Tropical Storm Irma, Decatur’s dog parks, fields and public parks are mostly intact, and all are currently open.
The worst damage was at the Adair Dog Park and McKoy Park.
Adair has four trees down and extensive damage to the park’s entry fence and side fences. Decatur Active Living Director Greg White is recommending that at some point Adair get temporarily closed until the trees are removed, but for now it’s open.

At McKoy, a pine tree is down in two sections near the pavilion, but there was no damage to the pavilion. McKoy is the only park still without power as of Thursday afternoon.
Overall, White said, most park problems are related to falling branches and debris. All three pools are undamaged, pavilions and concession stands are standing, there’s no damage to playground equipment and the basketball courts at Glenlake, Oakhurst and McKoy parks.
White said there are also several trees down at the United Methodist Children’s Home, recently purchased by the city, but no damage to any buildings.
