A McDonald’s in Decatur failed a routine health inspection Tuesday after an inspector noted flies in the restaurant and black residue in the ice machine.

Located at 2739 Wesley Chapel Road, the fast food franchise received a 67/U on the inspection, according to the DeKalb County Board of Health. This location only opened recently, and it had received a 100/A on its initial inspection in April.

In addition to the flies in the establishment and the black residue on the divider in the ice machine, the health inspector also observed employees “touching hair, hat and body parts without washing hands.”

Equipment used for holding food was stored as clean, but the inspector observed a grease buildup on the dishes. Other violations included pools of dirty water on the kitchen floor and food handlers with artificial nails.

Multiple attempts to contact management at McDonald’s for comment were unsuccessful.

A follow-up inspection is scheduled for July 6.
