Decatur Guardsman honored as Soldier of the Year

Georgia Army Guard Spc. Michael Edmunds, an infantryman with Griffin's Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 121st Infantry, was recently named the unit's Soldier of the Year for 2011

Edmunds, who also earned the Georgia Commendation Medal, will go on to represent his battalion in the Infantry Brigade Combat Team Soldier of the Year competition later this year.

In civilian life, Edmunds is a criminal law attorney from Decatur.
