In a recent meeting with the Medlock neighborhood Decatur reiterated that while its annexation master plan includes commercial areas adjacent to Medlock, the city isn’t including the community’s 1,400 homes.

This is primarily because of the expected extra burden on Decatur’s school system.

“Medlock has never been included on our map,” City Manager Peggy Merriss said. “If the legislature [redraws Decatur’s map and] includes Medlock then we won’t pursue annexation.”

The city’s scheduled to vote on its annexation map Monday.
