The Decatur Heights Neighborhood Association is hosting a forum for both commission and school board candidates 3 p.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at the Church at Decatur Heights, 735 Sycamore Drive.

In what former Mayor Bill Floyd calls “one of the most important elections I can remember,” it includes one of the larger fields in recent years with 10 candidates: Tony Powers and John Ridley for commission at large; Brian Smith and James Johnson for commission seat district 2, post B; and Valencia Breedlove, Scott Drake (incumbent) and Eric Tumperi for district 1, post B. School board opponents are Tasha White and Thomas DeSimone for district 2, post B; and incumbent Board Chair Garrett Goebel, who’s running unopposed.

Among other topics, candidates will be asked their views on annexation, the $75 million G.O. Bond, improving relations between the board and commission, safer speed and traffic calming on Scott Boulevard and whether or not Decatur should have a four-year mayor.
