Two people died after a head-on collision in Clayton County on Wednesday, police said.

Witnesses told police the driver of one car appeared to be racing along Lees Mill Road in Jonesboro, Clayton County police spokeswoman Sgt. Ashanti Marbury said.

That driver, later identified as 23-year-old Kyle Michael Nelson of Forest Park, lost control of the car and veered into oncoming traffic, colliding with the second car, Marbury said. She said the driver who veered into oncoming traffic was dead at the scene.

Lenardo Allen of Decatur, the 45-year-old driver of the other car, was in serious condition and later died at the hospital.

Police are investigating the incident to determine if drag racing was a factor, but initial evidence shows speed was a factor.
