The Dacula City Council recently appointed Trey King to complete the unexpired term of Mayor Jimmy Wilbanks, who died Jan. 3 after a battle with cancer. Wilbanks had completed only one year of his current four-year term. The city’s charter allows the city council to appoint a new mayor instead of holding a special election. King’s appointment was approved in a 2-1 vote, with Councilwoman Susan Robinson voting against.

King has served the community as a member of the Dacula zoning board of appeals, the planning commission, the steering committee for the comprehensive land use plan, as chairman of the planning commission, and as a city council member. He will lead with the help of and council members Robinson, Daniel Spain and Wendell Holcombe.

The next Dacula City Council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 7, with a council work session beginning at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 442 Harbins Road.
