Three men are in custody after a 20-year-old man was killed Friday night during an argument between neighbors, DeKalb County police said Saturday.

The shooting occurred about 10 p.m. at 1909 Whitehall Forest Court off Bouldercrest Road, said Officer Jason Gagnon, a police spokesman.

A witness told Channel 2 Action News that about 40 people had gathered at the condominiums for a birthday celebration, and the crowd scattered when about a dozen shots were fired.

The victim's mother, Bianca Daniels, told Channel 2 that her son, Raynell Cornell, got caught in the crossfire. Cornell was a father of two who was planning to go back to school, Daniels told the station.

"I just want to know who killed my son," she told Channel 2.

Gagnon said police officers responding to the shooting stopped a suspect's vehicle and took three men into custody. Charges are unknown at this time.

Detectives need to show lineups to a few more witnesses before more information can be released, Gagnon said.
