For the first time in more than a decades, all three Cumming mayoral and council positions up for grabs in the November election will be contested.

In qualifying last week, longtime mayor H. Ford Gravitt drew opposition from Troy Brumbalow, a local businessman who announced for the mayoral job at the beginning of the year. Gravitt has had no challenger since 2003 and was first elected in 1970.

For city council Post One, incumbent Chuck Welch, a banker, will be challenged by Chad Crane. Welch was elected in 2015 to fill an unexpired term.

The election is set for Nov. 7 with advance voting beginning in mid-October.
