Gwinnett DOT is reminding drivers the Jimmy Carter Boulevard bridge will close at 9 p.m. Friday for the weekend as crews change the traffic pattern across the bridge. The bridge will reopen at 5 a.m. Monday. Cars will still be able to turn right onto and off Interstate 85. Additional signage and police officers will be onsite for the initial period while drivers familiarize themselves with the new traffic pattern.

The diverging diamond design works with the existing bridge footprint, but improves efficiency by rerouting traffic on the bridge and eliminating left turn signals. In the two previously completed diverging diamonds, traffic at the interchange was significantly reduced as a result of the improved efficiency. Construction will continue on the interchange through the spring.
