A Coweta County baby is expected to be OK after testing positive for cocaine and methamphetamine, police said Friday.

The 11-month-old girl is now in state custody and her mother is in jail, Major James Yarbrough with the Coweta County Sheriff's Office told the AJC.

The child's mother, Mary Michelle Henry, 27, was arrested in January on charges of violation of parole, suspended license and giving a false name, according to police. Her baby, whose name was not released, was placed in DFACS care at the time of the arrest and given a routine checkup, Yarbrough said.

When tests revealed the baby had illegal drugs in her body, Henry was also charged with cruelty to children, according to police.

Investigators believe the child ingested the drugs herself and was not nursing, Yarbrough said.

"She touched it and put her hands in her mouth," Yarbrough said.

Henry's criminal history includes a 2010 arrest for trafficking meth, according to police. In 2005, Henry served four months in state prison after her conviction in Fayette County for terroristic threats, according to the state Department of Corrections.
