The city of Chamblee’s municipal court is closed through August after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19, officials said Sunday.
The staffer was at a July 6 traffic court session, but was not exhibiting any symptoms at that time. Chamblee’s traffic court resumed holding in-person sessions on June 29.
“They were not in close proximity with any attendees and followed social distancing guidelines,” the city said in a statement. Judges, solicitors and court staff were separated from the public with Plexiglas partitions, official said.
Other staffers who were in close proximity with the individual who tested positive are self-quarantining for 14 days.

All court sessions are canceled through August; residents with a court date can visit the city's website for information about rescheduling. The city does not offer virtual court hearings, but allows residents to pay fines over the phone, spokeswoman Tisa Moore said.
Several other metro Atlanta cities have also begun resuming traffic court hearings, with health and safety guidelines in place.
More than 8,200 cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in DeKalb County.
