At a meeting held Thursday, Georgia DOT and Gwinnett DOT officials explained plans for a new interchange at Interstate 85 and Gravel Springs Road in Buford. The project, slated for late 2018 or 2019, would provide access to I-85 from the new bridge at Gravel Springs Road. The goal of the added exit and entrance lanes will be to divert traffic volume backed up at the Hamilton Mill Road and Buford Drive exits.

Gwinnett has committed $8 million in SPLOST funds for right-of-way and engineering. State and federal matching funds will provide another $10 million for construction.
