County rehabs Big Haynes Creek dam

June 9, 2011

Gwinnett County recently finished a $1.7 million rehabilitation of Big Haynes Creek dam between Snellville and Grayson.

The project brought the dam into compliance with modern safety standards. The county abandoned the earthen spillway on the dam abutments and built a new concrete spillway. Built in 1963, the dam stores storm water during periods of excessive rainfall and slowly releases it after the storm has passed.
