Bribery figure reports to prison Jan. 7
A businessman who admitted arranging a bribe for former Gwinnett County Commissioner Shirley Lasseter will report to a federal prison in South Carolina Jan. 7.
Carl “Skip” Cain pleaded guilty to bribery and drug charges in May and was later sentenced to 57 months in prison. He originally was scheduled to report to prison earlier this month, but asked a judge to postpone his reporting date, citing his wife’s health problems.
Lasseter, who admitted accepting a bribe in exchange for her vote on a real estate development, already has begun serving a 33-month sentence. David Wickert

Donations needed for animal welfare group
LifeLine Animal Project is seeking year-end donations to its animal welfare work because gifts will be matched from a new grant.
Anisa International, an Atlanta cosmetic brush design firm, will match all donations up to $25,000.
If met by the Monday deadline, that would add $50,000 for the group to spend on low-cost spay/neuter surgeries, veterinary care and adoption of homeless pets.
LifeLine, which is based in Avondale Estates and has a second clinic in College Park, has performed more than 55,000 spay/neuter surgeries since its founding a decade ago.
Donations can be made at www.LifeLineAnimal.org, via mail at P.O. Box 15466, Atlanta, GA 30333. Donors also can call 404-292-8800. April Hunt
