Smyrna to hold hearing on road project

Smyrna will hold a hearing 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Taylor-Brawner Park’s Brawner Hall, 3180 Atlanta Road on the Atlanta Road median project. The meeting will cover the Ridge Road to Concord Road phase of the $6 million SPLOST project that will add a raised landscaped median and fewer left-turns on Atlanta Road to improve safety. Volunteers neededfor roadway cleanup

Keep DeKalb Beautiful is accepting volunteers to help with the local effort in the Great American Cleanup.

Last year, more than 80 groups of volunteers removed more than 25,000 pounds of litter from 168 miles of county roadways in the one-day event.

The cleanup will take place on April 27. Volunteers must register by April 5.

Police chief takes office, visits county Monday

DeKalb County will swear in its new police chief Monday 4/1morning, followed by several visits throughout the county.

Cedric Alexander will be sworn into office at 8:30 a.m. Monday in a ceremony at the DeKalb History Center inside the Old Courthouse on Decatur Square.

Alexander is slated to visit Cedar Grove Middle School at 10 a.m. Public events also will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Lou Walker Senior Center on Panola Road near Lithonia and at 1 p.m. at Oak Grove Market on LaVista Road north of Decatur. April Hunt

The Henry County Board of Commissioners has extended its moratorium on the acceptance, review or hearing of applications for sign permits until May 21. The purpose of the moratorium, originally passed in February, was to give staff time to review and update the Unified Land Development Code and address possible safety and nuisance issues created by lighted digital signage.
