Police conduct training exercise

The Atlanta Police Department, along with the Atlanta Fire-Rescue Department, will participate in a simulated large-scale emergency scenario and major evacuation training exercise on 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Monday at 72 Marietta St. The public may notice police activity and/or the presence of police vehicles. North Atlanta High School work finished

Atlanta’s school system celebrated the completion of construction at North Atlanta High School with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday.

Most of the $147 million North Atlanta High opened before this school year began, but a theater and gymnasium were recently finished.

The ceremony included Superintendent Erroll Davis, Board of Education Chairman Reuben McDaniel, Cooper Carry Principal Jerome M. Brookhaven could redo Buford Highway

Brookhaven recently hired a design firm to help lead its efforts to plan improvements along Buford Highway.

The city will pay Jaeger Co. about $100,000 to help develop a redevelopment plan that includes safe housing and workforce programs.

The plan also will focus on pedestrian accessibility and streetscapes.

The work will be done alongside the year-long comprehensive plan for the city, which launches this month. April Hunt

Blood drive Dec. 27 at Piedmont Henry

Piedmont Henry Hospital and the American Red Cross will hold a blood drive 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 27, in the Foundation Education Center. To give blood, a donor must be: in good health; age 17 years or older; weigh at least 110 pounds; not have donated blood within the last 56 days; and, show a valid photo I.D. It is recommended donors eat a snack or meal within two hours prior to donating blood.
