Parent center receives grant to help disabled
Parent to Parent of Georgia has been awarded the Regional Parent Technical Assistance Center grant, allowing it to expand its services to families of children affected by disabilities in seven other states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Dave Blanchard, formerly director of support services with the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, will head the center.
Prior to his role with DBHDD, Blanchard served as the executive director with All About Developmental Disabilities.

Woodstock Trolley will run in December
The Downtown Woodstock Trolley will run again in December, connecting residents and shoppers with businesses, restaurants and attractions.

Lego Menorah building will start today
The Chabad Jewish Center of Kennesaw and Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta are teaming up Sunday, as children and parents build what’s billed as the Atlanta’s tallest Lego Menorah.

Lost Mountain Tennis Center wins award
Lost Mountain Tennis Center in Powder Springs has been chosen by the United States Tennis Association as its Georgia Member Organization of the Year for the second time, the first being in 2004.
Selection is based on service to the tennis community, the organization’s members and the game of tennis.
As an example, the Lost Mountain Community Tennis Association recently donated nearly $3,000 to the SafePath Advocacy Center, which helps and intervenes with abused and neglected children to educate and stop child abuse.

Canned food drive planned for animals
The Gwinnett County Animal Welfare and Enforcement Services is joining the Gwinnett CAN Challenge, a food drive initiated by the Holtkamp Family Foundation to collect at least 10 tons of food through Dec. 1.
Drop off canned food at the Animal Welfare and Enforcement Center, 884 Winder Highway in Lawrenceville. Bring five items and receive a $10 voucher good for a discount on shelter fees for adoptions, claims and rescues.
