Sandy Springs to hold millage rate hearings

Sandy Springs will conduct the first of three public hearings on the 2015 millage rate at 6 p.m. July 15 in the council chambers at City Hall, 7840 Roswell Road.

The budget tentatively adopted by the city council requires a millage rate increase for the 2015 fiscal year.

The city millage rate of 4.731 is set in the city’s charter and has not changed since incorporation.

As a result of increasing property values, the millage rate for the new fiscal year reflects that is 1.07 percent higher than the rollback millage rate computed by the Fulton County Tax Assessors Office.

The two additional required public hearings will be on Aug. 5 at 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Milton offering teen driver program

The city of Milton Municipal Court has launched the Teen Victim Impact Program, aimed at reducing teen traffic violations and fatal crashes.

Accused traffic violators under 21 can take the two- hour program instead of the six-hour defensive driving course to reduce driver’s license point deductions.

Woodstock Parks and Recreation Department hosts a youth rugby camp 8:30 a.m.- 11:30 a.m. Wednesday - Friday at Dupree Park for players ages 8-14.

Peachtree City seeks flashing suspect

Peachtree City police are trying to identify a man suspected of exposing himself to women at the Kedron Kroger earlier this week. A young black man wearing white athletic shorts and a white T-shirt with “RMA” on the back was seen on store video and in the parking lot when the incidents were reported.

Ethics complaint filed against DeKalb CEO

An ethics complaint alleges Interim DeKalb County CEO overstepped his authority when he recently announced a proposal to create a full-time chief integrity officer.

The complaint, filed by DeKalb resident Rhea Johnson, said May interfered with the county Board of Ethics, which is designed to operate independently.

The Board of Ethics will review the complaint, which was filed Wednesday, and then decide whether to open an investigation. Mark Niesse
