Local government officials in Henry County and McDonough have agreed to a property swap. Three acres of land on Veterans Drive in McDonough and the Polk building on the northeast corner of the square, both owned by the county, will be turned over to the city in exchange for a seven-year lease on nearly 5,000 square feet of office space in the former City Hall.

That space will be used for various courthouse personnel such as the public defender’s office as space in the county courts is at a premium. Georgia law allows municipalities to trade property rather than selling it if they choose, according to a county attorney.
