Would you pay $5 to have an almost-private dinner with Barack Obama?

The president's official 2012 campaign site,  donate.barackobama.com, is offering a chance to do just that.

USA Today reports an e-mail sent to supporters says "If you make a donation today, you'll be automatically entered for a chance to be one of the four supporters to sit down with me for dinner. Please donate $5 or more today."

Those with deep pockets can contribute much more, but that won't increase the odds of winning. The proverbial small print says no contribution is necessary to win, but the form seems to require a credit card number and other personal info.

There's no mention of what will be served, but the winners will get free transportation to the White House, or wherever Obama happens to be eating a "casual" meal that day.

"All you need to bring is your story and your ideas about how we can continue to make this a better country for all Americans," Obama writes in the e-mail.

It seems like an unusual way to raise cash for the 2012 campaign, but USA Today reports Obama did basically the same thing in 2008.
