Uncertainty created by the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the Cumming Recreation and Parks Department to cancel much of its traditional summer programming through June, affecting day camps, Camp Cool Kids and Teens, and art, dance, gymnastics and athletic camps.

The department cited such issues as not knowing what phase of recovery the community will be in at any given time; social distancing, interactions between participants and with instructors, and sharing of supplies and equipment; and the availability of disinfecting supplies and staffing and costs to meet health guidelines.

“Should the ability to plan for and meet the above criteria improve, some additional programming may be made available in July,” the department said.

Programming is tentatively scheduled to resume beginning June 15 for Team and Upper-Level Gymnastics, Company Dance and Art Adult classes and some of the Recreation Department fitness program.
