A 15-year-old boy was jailed this week after being charged with two counts of child molestation after police said he assaulted the 7-year-old daughter of his mother's boyfriend.

The teenager, who is not being identified due to his age, will be charged as an adult, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office told Channel 2 Action News.

The boy and girl became acquainted when their parents began dating, according to the authorities. The alleged abuse took place over a year in central Douglas County.

The parents are now engaged and are living together, and the girl is still in the home, the authorities said. The case is also being investigated by the state Department of Children and Family Services.

The 15-year-old, who was arrested Thursday, is charged with child molestation and aggravated child molestation.

He was being held without bond in the Douglas County jail.
