A man who shot another man in the face Tuesday is believed to have done so in self-defense, Gwinnett County police said Thursday.
Detectives determined that the man who was shot was the "primary aggressor," Cpl. Jake Smith of the Gwinnett County Police Department said in a news release.
The incident took place at the Landmark at Bella Vista Apartments in the 4000 block of Satellite Boulevard in unincorporated Duluth around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday.
According to authorities, a man said the suspect pointed a gun through the open driver's side window of the man's car. The man, who the investigation revealed legally possessed and carried his own handgun, grabbed it and fired at the suspect several times from his vehicle before leaving the scene.
He returned to work, told his manager about the incident and they contacted the police. He has cooperated with authorities, Smith said.
The identity of the hospitalized suspect, a 21-year-old Duluth man, is being withheld pending the end of the investigation, Smith said. The suspect's injuries are serious, but he is expected to survive, he said.
