Bastrop County deputies seized nearly 50 pounds of marijuana and arrested two men during a recent traffic stop.

Robert Harrison, 60, and Issac Ramirez, 30, both from Austin, were arrested last Wednesday and charged with possession of marijuana, a 3rd degree felony in this case, according to officials with the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office.

Police officials received word from an anonymous source that a residence in Bastrop had received three large boxes thought to have been containing marijuana. After conducting surveillance on the house, a deputy and an investigator on duty observed a 2013 Ford F-150 pull into the house’s driveway, according to an arrest affidavit.

Officers observed Ramirez exit the vehicle and later return to the vehicle a short time later before driving away from the residence, officials said.

The vehicle was the followed by an additional police unit until a marked police cruiser was in the area, at which time the vehicle was pulled over for failing to signal a turn within 100 feet of an intersection, according to the affidavit.

Harrison was asked to exit the vehicle and was subsequently asked to give consent for police officials to search the truck, which he then gave, officials said. Officers said they immediately became aware of a strong odor of marijuana after opening the rear passenger side door and observed a large U-Haul box matching the description provided by their anonymous source.

After searching the box, officers found 14 vacuum sealed packages containing marijuana, weighing a total of approximately 49 pounds, according to the affidavit.

Both Harrison and Ramirez posted bail and were released, according to officials.
