Cherokee County deputies have arrested and charged a Marietta man with vehicular homicide.

On Saturday, Freddie Perdue, 37, allegedly fled on foot after his car hit a culvert and went into the woods off I-575, according to the sheriff’s office. He is accused of leaving behind his passenger, Shantavia Roberts, near exit 20.

Roberts died on the scene.

Perdue was later arrested by Canton police. He suffered a broken foot as a result of the accident, the sheriff’s office said.

Perdue is charged with 1st and 2nd degree vehicular homicide, reckless driving, obstruction of an officer and other charges.

He was held at Cherokee jail on $32,510 bond Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators are awaiting toxicology results.
