A man accused of stealing $5,000 worth of merchandise from a Woodstock eye wear store a week ago allegedly tried the same thing Saturday morning. He made it out of the store with an additional $5,000 worth of items, but was caught moments later, authorities said.

Employees of the Pearle Vision on Ga. 92 recognized the suspect and called police, who arrived in time to arrest Tracy Roberts in the parking lot, Woodstock police Chief David Bores said.

Roberts was carrying some of the stolen merchandise and more was found in his car, Bores said. Roberts is accused of taking a total of $10,000 worth of merchandise in two separate attempts. Video surveillance cameras confirm Roberts was the same man who took $5,000 worth of merchandise from the store without paying for it the previous week, police said.

Roberts was taken into custody without incident. He faces two counts of felony theft by shoplifting and one count of possession of tools of a crime.

Roberts was booked into the Cherokee County jail.
