Gwinnett County police are searching for a man who allegedly stole mail from a U.S. Postal Service mailbox and fraudulently cashed a stolen check.

The man was seen on surveillance camera on Dec. 2 and Dec. 9 using a key to open a mailbox on S. Berkeley Lake Road in Duluth. The man took the contents of the mailbox — items which people placed inside to be mailed — and put them in his car, according to police. It also appeared there were white USPS boxes in his trunk, police said.

Among the items taken were multiple business checks. Those checks were fraudulently altered and cashed “in the Atlanta area” after the theft, police said.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Gwinnett County detectives at 770-513-5300 or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477. Crime Stoppers tips may be rewarded with up to $2,000 if they lead to an arrest or indictment.
