A 46-year-old Jackson County man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly shooting to death his wife and 13-year-old son, according to police.

Marty Glenn Reeves, of Jefferson, was charged with two counts of murder and booked into the Jackson County jail shortly before noon, records show. He was being held Wednesday night without bond.

Reeves is accused of killing his wife, Andrea, 46, and the couple’s son, Austin, inside the family’s Gordon Street home, according to Mike Ayers, GBI special agent. Ayers declined to say if anyone else was in the home at the time of the shootings.

Jefferson police Chief Joe Wirthman said the GBI was called in to assist with the investigation and remained at the home for several hours Wednesday. But the biggest question remained unanswered: Why?

“We haven’t established a motive, and I don’t know that we ever will,” Ayers told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “It’s a very, very sad situation.”

Ayers said weapons were removed from the home, but it was not yet known if the gun involved in the killings was among those. Those weapons will be submitted to the crime lab for testing, he said.

Marty Reeves has no known criminal history. His family had lived in the Jefferson home less than a year after moving from Barrow County, address records show.
