The 23-year-old man accused of hitting a parked vehicle that then hit and killed a woman was reaching for a piece of paper in his truck at the time of the collision, according to police.

William Jerod Webb, of Marietta, was free on $3,500 bond Friday, one week after he allegedly struck a Ford Freestyle head-on on Church Street in Marietta, according to an arrest warrant obtained by the AJC.

The impact caused the Ford to hit Joanne Legg, 74, as she stood on the sidewalk, police said. Legg, of Commerce, died the following day.

Webb was allegedly trying to retrieve a piece of paper behind or next to the driver's seat of his 2000 GMC Sierra at the time of the collision, the warrant states.

"The accused leaned his entire body to the right, obstructing his view of the roadway," the warrant states.

Webb turned himself into police Monday and was arrested. He was charged with second degree vehicular homicide and reckless driving and released from jail about two hours later.

Legg's funeral was held Thursday.
