A Kennesaw State University student was robbed at gunpoint at the school’s Austin Residential Complex at 3:40 a.m. Tuesday, campus police said.
The student was loading items into his car when two men carrying handguns approached him. The men demanded the student hand over his wallet and gun, according to an alert sent to students. The student complied and was not injured.
Students were alerted to the incident Tuesday morning by KSU’s Department of Public Safety. The alert reminded students to avoid dark or isolated areas and report any suspicious activity to police.
KSU police also increased patrols Tuesday in response to the robbery, university spokeswoman Tammy DeMel said.
Concealed weapons permit holders have been permitted to carry guns on KSU's campus and at other public colleges and universities in Georgia since July 1, when the state's new "campus carry" law went into effect. KSU has held information sessions to help students, faculty and staff learn about the new rules under the law. DeMel said the university did not have information about whether the victim had a concealed carry permit.
