According to the report, Ramirez-Cruz’s roommate went to the bathroom near Ramirez-Cruz’s bedroom around 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 14. Ramirez-Cruz had been sleeping, but was woken up; the roommate had three guests in the apartment, the report says.

Ramirez-Cruz walked into the bathroom and started striking his roommate with the machete in the neck and chest, the report says. The roommate tried to block the attack with his forearms and elbows. At some point, the machete ended up getting thrown outside, the report says.

Ramirez-Cruz told the police he took out the machete in self-defense after confronting his roommate and the roommate’s guests about making too much noise, but one of the men took the machete away and threw it out the window. All three guests told the police they saw Ramirez-Cruz enter the bathroom and attack the roommate with the machete.

Ramirez-Cruz was arrested and transported to the Gwinnett County Detention Center. He is being held on a $5,700 bond.
