The man who hit and killed a pedestrian near Lawrenceville early Saturday morning was driving under the influence, Gwinnett County police said.

Adedotun Odunsi, 38, of Lawrenceville was arrested after fleeing the scene of the crash and has been charged with vehicular homicide, hit and run and DUI. As of Monday afternoon, he remained in the Gwinnett County jail without bond.

Jalen High, 22, also of Lawrenceville, was killed in the crash.

Police said it was around 3:45 a.m. Saturday when High was hit by Odunsi's Hyundai while walking on Lawrenceville Highway near Wabash Drive. Odunsi drove off without offering assistance, police said, but was apprehended after hitting a guardrail a short distance away on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road.

High was not carrying identification when he was hit and could not be identified at the scene. His identity was not released until Monday afternoon.
