A Decatur woman suffered a heart attack Wednesday after her son shot and killed two men allegedly trying to break into their home, police said.
Timoteo Hernandez, 28, said he flagged down officers after shooting two men outside his home in the 2800 block of Eastwood Drive, according to a police report.
“They tried to rob me and I shot them,” Hernandez said in the report.
Officers arrived shortly after 5 p.m. and found a man in all black clothing lying face down in the front yard.
The man was “bleeding heavily from the head and not breathing,” an officer said in the report.
Emergency medical services arrived and pronounced the man dead. His name was not released.
A second man, Anthony Hubbard, 44, of Conyers, was shot in the chest and died Thursday at Grady Memorial Hospital, Maj. Stephen Fore, a spokesman for DeKalb County police, said.
Hubbard allegedly fled in a car that police said was driven by Chernika Marks, 25, of Conyers. Police said Marks drove Hubbard to a nearby Zaxby’s and called out for help.
When police and EMS arrived at the restaurant at 3490 Memorial Drive, Hubbard was lying face up with an open chest wound, the report said.
Hernandez’s mother, 51-year-old Ramona Derossette, was taken to Emory Hospital, where she was treated for a heart attack. Her condition was not immediately released Thursday.
Marks, who allegedly drove Hubbard to the Zaxby’s, was arrested and charged with murder, aggravated assault and armed robbery, Fore said.
