Cops believe they've caught lollipop bank robber

June 13, 2012

Police believe they have captured the lollipop-sucking bank robber linked to three heists, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Hiram police took 28-year-old Devin Johnson into custody Monday in connection with a robbery Saturday afternoon.

"[Police] went to a relative's house to see if we could get some information on him there, and he answered the door and cooperated," Detective Donald Roberts of the Hiram Police Department told Channel 2.

Investigators said they found Johnson with money that may be from Saturday's robbery of the Bank of America on Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway.

They also said Johnson matches the description of the "Lollipop Bandit" wanted for robbing a Wells Fargo Bank in Mableton on May 11 and a Regions Bank in Austell on May 18. In each of those robberies, a man sucking a lollipop passed a note to a teller demanding money, then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

No one was hurt in the three incidents.

Hiram police are contacting the GBI and Cobb authorities to discuss the robberies, Channel 2 said.
