A Marietta man is accused of trying to rob an East Cobb pharmacy of powerful prescription drugs.

Matthew James Colozzi is charged with one count each of armed robbery, obstruction and possession of heroin in connection to the April 14 incident reported just after 5 p.m. at Walgreens at 2580 Sandy Plains Road.

According to an arrest warrant, Colozzi allegedly entered the store, walked to the pharmacy counter and passed a note to an employee.

That note said he was armed with a .38-caliber handgun and demanded oxycodone and Xanax. Oxycodone is a powerful prescription opioid while Xanax is used to treat anxiety.

Following the alleged robbery, Colozzi ran from officers after he was given commands to stop and “continued to resist arrest after being tased,” the warrant said.

Police found he was in possession of a metal spoon with suspected heroin on its surface, the warrant goes on to say.

Colozzi, 40, was booked into the Cobb County Jail and remains held without bond.
