Temperatures were below freezing in parts of metro Atlanta Tuesday morning, but a big warm-up later in the week will push afternoon reading into the 70s by the weekend.
Lows early Tuesday included 30 degrees in Peachtree City, 36 in Alpharetta and 38 at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said Tuesday will be mostly cloudy, with a 20 percent chance of rain late in the day. Afternoon highs will be in the low 50s, followed by overnight lows in the 40s.
The chance of rain increases to 40 percent Wednesday through Friday before dropping back to 20 percent on Saturday.
Minton is predicting highs in the upper 50s Wednesday, mid-60s Thursday, upper 60s Friday and low 70s Saturday. Lows will be in the 50s.
Normal high for the second week of January is 52, the normal low 34.
