Over the next few months, the building at 11360 Lakefield Drive in Johns Creek will host construction workers and trucks, not city council members and meetings.
Work has begun on renovating City Hall in Johns Creek. The city posted photos of construction beginning to its Twitter account on July 6.
A city spokesman said work is expected to be completed on the new city hall by March 2019.
The office building currently spans over 75,000 square feet, but another 16,000 square feet is being added to it, in addition to renovations and upgrades.
According to Fulton County property records, it was built in 1997. The property was purchased by the Georgia Municipal Association in February 2017 for $9.4 million.
While construction is ongoing, Johns Creek’s city leaders and staff will remain in temporary offices at 10700 Abbotts Bridge Road. Since September 2017, offices for business licenses, the city clerk, community development, communications, finance, fire, IT, permits, public works, recreation and parks and revenue have been housed there.
City council and other meetings have been held at the Johns Creek municipal court at 11445 Johns Creek Parkway.
When renovations and additions to the new city hall are completed, the municipal court and public safety offices will move there.
