The northbound lanes of the Downtown Connector were shut down for about 40 minutes Monday morning because of a person threatening to jump onto the interstate.

Atlanta police Sgt. Greg Lyon said that there was a “suicidal person wanting to jump” just before the Peachtree-Pine Street exit.

Atlanta firefighters placed a large air bag under the person.

The incident began about 9:25 a.m., and just before 10 a.m., the man had been secured and was no longer in danger, Lyon said.

The interstate reopened about 10:05 a.m.
