The Inner City Muslim Action Network will host a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday on a new apartment complex named “The Green ReEntry Village” in the West End community.
According to a press release, the Green ReEntry Village will offer a safe and affordable transitional housing option for returning citizens, high-risk youth and community members. IMAN’s housing initiative serves as a grassroots community development model focused on revitalizing neighborhoods from within.
Three years ago,IMAN launched the Green ReEntry training and housing program in Atlanta. This year, IMAN has expanded its housing vision with the purchase and total rehab of a 10-unit apartment building located at 2139 MLK Dr., Atlanta.
Organizers said it was appropriate that this project is located on a street named for the civil rights icon. King’s vision for a beloved community married to justice, fair housing and absolute love for the human family is not only an inspiration to the organization but is embedded in IMAN’s work, continuing his legacy, IMAN officials said.
The Inner-City Muslim Action Network is a community organization that fosters health, wellness and healing in the inner-city by organizing for social change, cultivating the arts, and operating a holistic health center. IMAN incorporated as a nonprofit in 1997 through the drive of people directly affected by and deeply invested in social issues affecting communities of color living on Chicago’s South Side. Since that time, IMAN has steadily grown and, in 2016, opened a second office in Atlanta to continue mobilizing a cross-section of people committed to this mission.
