Community Emergency Response Team accepting applications

Gwinnett’s Community Emergency Response Team is currently seeking applicants for the fall 2015 CERT program. In a large-scale operation when first responders are overwhelmed, individuals who have completed initial CERT training have the skills to provide assistance in their homes, neighborhoods and local communities until first responders arrive. Residents are trained in basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations.

Courses are open to all Gwinnett residents 18 years and older who pass a background check provided by the Gwinnett County Police Department. Classes will meet every Tuesday evening 6:30 to 9 p.m. Sept. 8 through Oct. 20 at the Gwinnett County Police Department Annex building, 800 Hi Hope Road in Lawrenceville. A course review and disaster simulation will take place 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 24.
