The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Tuesday agreed to buy the Fort Daniel historic site on Braselton Highway in northeastern Gwinnett.

Commissioners agreed to pay owner Ann P. Grant $241,000 for the 4.3-acre property, which includes a 1,500-square-foot house.

Local militia built Fort Daniel in 1818, a few years before the county was incorporated. Archaeologists and historians located the remains of the fort in 2009.

The county plans to use the site for educational purposes. Funds for the purchase came from a 2009 special local option sales tax approved by voters.
