College Park Police announced recently the purchase and installation of 100 body cameras. The city began the soft launch of body-worn cameras in November and as of Feb. 1, has outfitted its entire staff.

“The College Park Police Department embraces the idea of transparency and the use of Reveal Body Worn Cameras,” stated Police Chief Keith Meadows. “It will go a long way in terms of building a sense of trust and legitimacy, and will help to protect not only our citizens but our police officers as well.”

The cameras feature eight hours of battery, encrypted memory and are equipped with a front facing screen, a feature that Reveal Media touts as playing an active role in de-escalating confrontational situations. The cameras have a simple one click record trigger, with 260 degree horizontal and 60 degree vertical viewpoints and once the cameras are returned to the baseplate, the video files are uploaded to secure cloud storage.

Donald Trump's administration deployed the military to Washington, D.C., in the name of fighting crime, and in an Aug. 11 news conference he mentioned the possibility of military being sent to other large American cities, all of which are led by Black, Democratic mayors. And while Atlanta wasn't included in Trump's list, the city fits that profile under Mayor Andre Dickens. (Photo Illustration: Philip Robibero / AJC | Source: Getty)
