College Park Chief of Police Ron Frears has announced that he plans to retire next year.

Late last month, he notified College Park City Planner Terrence Moore of his intentions. Frears began his career in College Park in 1985.

The department reduced serious crimes such as aggravated assaults, burglary and grand theft during that time by 23 percent, according to a press release from the city. Frears’ last day will be Jan. 9.

An interim hasn’t been named nor have details for finding his replacement.
